Rastenburg - The Wolf’s Lair
This site, the Wolf's Liar, is located around 5km outside of Kętrzyn (Rastenburg). Hitler spent around 800 days here after 24 June 1941 and the invasion of the Soviet Union two days earlier.
It was also the scene of the attempt on Hitler’s life made by the German resistance on 20 July 1944 which failed largely due to lack of explosive force which could have been avoided if the two bombs that von Stauffenburg had brought with him had been used and if the meeting on that day had been held in a bunker and not in the wooden summer house due to the heat.
